 CREATING — Roger Morin of Houlton works on a painting at his Court Street studio. Morin has been making artwork for 50 years.

Roger Morin, owner of Houlton Art Studio on Court Street, is celebrating a personal milestone of five decades as a visual artist.
Morin, who was born in Auburn, started doodling at a young age and became more interested in drawing when he was 14 years old. With encouragement from a teacher, Morin was able to pursue art.

HOULTON — Katahdin Trust Company Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Vicki Smith, announced that Jennifer Collins has joined the bank as marketing officer. In her role, Collins will be responsible for contributing to the growth and profitability of the bank in all areas of advertising, research, contributions, public relations, online marketing efforts, and branding as the bank continues its expansion efforts.

AUGUSTA — The Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD) is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Governor’s Award for Business Excellence.
“The Award for Business Excellence represents the innovative spirit that has earned Maine a reputation for top quality workmanship, service and a commitment to excellence,” DECD Commissioner George Gervais said. “We encourage any of Maine’s for-profit businesses to get involved.”

UMPI hosts management courses for spring semester |

PRESQUE ISLE — The University of Maine at Presque Isle will be offering two courses this spring starting on Monday, Feb. 27, as part of its American Management Association’s certificate programs. The deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 22.
These courses, part of a multi-course curriculum leading to certificates in management and human resources management, are specifically created to meet the unique needs of working professionals who want to be more effective in their current positions and better prepared for future advancement, according to Keith Madore, campus AMA coordinator.
