WINNERS - The Braves of the Houlton Men’s Softball League were runners-up in the Class E state championship played in Ellsworth. They won their first game and lost their second before playing six straight games to earn their way into the finals. In the championship game, the Braves defeated the Young Guns of Ellsworth in the fifth inning with the run rule in effect. With each team losing once, the teams met again and the Braves fell 6-5. The Braves came in second out of 10 teams. Playing for the Braves are, from left, front, Aaron Brown, Cliff Urquhart, Aaron Greenlaw, Brian Andrews and Jordan Guy; back, Aaron Urquhart, Mitchell Clayton, Jason Clayton, Jim Gravel, Jerry Hanning, John Mooney and Danny Scott.

Last week’s Twilight League saw the team of Bill Boulier and Greg Douglas pick up yet another win in the National League to improve their record to 4-0-1. Jim Dyer and Chet Chase are three points back, with a record of 3-2. In the American League, anyone is positioned to finish at the top of the standings come year end. Currently the teams of Dave Dubois/Eric Morris, Scot Walker/Jon Smallwood and Steve Merry/Steve Edwards are tied at the top with 3-2 records for a total of six points, while everyone else currently has four points. Two weeks remain in the regular season.
