    HOULTON — Thayne Ormsby’s mother watched as her 20-year-old son, Thayne Ormsby, leaned toward the microphone at his arraignment on three counts of murder and said “not guilty.” Despite his confession, detailed in a July 2 state police affidavit, Ormsby’s not guilty plea was entered before Justice E. Allen Hunter in Houlton Superior Court last Wednesday provoking a slight gasp of surprise in the courtroom.

FESTIVAL FANS — Inside the bright green wagon, a young pig and two young goats were a source of intrigue for the Lewis children who couldn’t resist investigating and trying to pet the animals. Outside the Sherman Area Memorial VFW 2299, Shelby, 8, Sky, 3, and A.J., 6, were among the visitors to the 10th annual Stacyville Strawberry Festival last weekend.  See more photos on page Six.

BENEFIT PLANNED — Eleven-month-old Chloe Bates of Houlton was recently diagnosed with a rare disease called Langerhan’s cell histiocytosis. A benefit supper is planned Aug. 13 for the child.

    HOULTON — Pastor Randall Burns said he and members of the Military St. Baptist Church were asking God what they “could do more to get outside of the building and be the church in the community.” Well, God answered their questions and their prayers.
