Bowdoin freshmen make County trek

BOWDOIN STUDENTS VISIT COUNTY – Ten Bowdoin College freshmen and two upperclassmen spent several days in Aroostook County this past week. While here they volunteered at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton and picked potatoes at the Stewart Farm on Route 1 in Presque Isle. Anti-abuse program keeps mission

SAFETY PLANS — The Hope and Justice Project assists victims of domestic abuse and violence with safety planning and services. Domestic Violence Investigator Lawrence Goff of the Aroostook County Sheriffs Department works with Karan Wotton, a criminal justice advocate who is a liaison between victims and law enforcement. Jamie Cleary, right, is the southern Aroostook outreach advocate who also works directly with clients seeking legal remedies in abuse situations.

    HOULTON — The first day of school for children in Houlton was filled with smiles and excitement as they entered their classrooms and met with teachers last Wednesday morning.
    “The first day is when the children wear their new sneakers and their new backpacks. They come in skipping down the halls, pulling on their parents hands in their haste to get to their classrooms and meet their teachers,” said Candy Crane, principal of Houlton Elementary School.

SACS bests Easton, Central Aroostook
    In the second week of the soccer season, the Southern Aroostook Community School soccer squads picked up wins over visiting Central Aroostook and Easton to start the season perfectly. In other girls soccer, both the Houlton (0-2) and Hodgdon (0-4) squads are searching for their first wins on the season, while Southern Aroostook (2-0) is off to a hot start. East Grand (0-0) has yet to play a game.
