How does one go about expressing their love and devotion to another? It’s a popular topic this time of year as Tuesday marked St. Valentine’s Day. For many, Valentine’s Day is synonymous with buying cards, chocolates or flowers as a token gesture of one’s undying love and affection for another individual.

I am a 68-year-old cross-country bicyclist from Iowa desiring to travel the USA solo this summer from the very upper corner of Maine to the beaches of Key West, Florida. Sometime in July, I will be passing through Houlton for a look around and an overnight stay.

I am outraged that Gov. Paul LePage would allow the state of Pennsylvania. to send winter coats to the needy children of the state of Maine! Doesn’t the governor realize that this is welfare?!?

The 2012 Aroostook County Relay for Life event held its successful Kick-off Night on January 31st at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
This kick-off ceremony marked the start of this year’s Relay for Life fund-raising season leading up to the overnight event in June. If you weren’t able to attend our campaign-opening event, please contact us if you have been a team captain before, or would like to learn about how to start a team.

“When there are friends, there is wealth” according to a Southwestern Spanish proverb. How true that is, not only for adults but for youth. Young peoples’ choices, attitudes, and behaviors are often influenced by the friends they surround themselves with. Search Institute asked youth in a national survey if their best friends model responsible behavior, are a good influence on them, do well in school and do not participate in risky behaviors such as underage drinking or drug use.
