    With the new Bangor Auditorium under construction, this year’s players may be the last of many who remember the soul and spirit of a building and its hardwood.
    There have been many grandparent/parent/children connections within the old auditorium and none mean more than for those who will play out the final chapter. The following is a sampling of those sharing this special bond.

sp-htlcheer-dc5-pt-07HAVING FUN — The Houlton High School cheerleaders have fun while performing their routine at the Class C State Cheerleading Meet last Saturday in Augusta. The Houlton cheerleaders completed their competitions with a fifth-place finish. Central of East Corinth won the championship with Lisbon coming in as runners-up.
    The Houlton cheerleaders may not have brought home any state hardware, but they performed very well in front of a capacity crowd at the State Cheerleading Competition at the Augusta Civic Center last Saturday.
    The Houlton High School cheerleaders have advanced to states 15 out of the last 16 years.

It’s play-off time! Local high school boys teams in prelim games tonight PDF  | Print |

    Tonight, four teams will be in play-off action as the boys preliminary games are played.
    No. 7 Houlton
vs. No. 10 GSA  (8-10)
    The Houlton Shiretowners will host George Stevens Academy at 5:30 p.m. at Alumni Gymnasium. The doors will open at 4:45 p.m. and season tickets will not be honored. Tickets are $5 adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.

Regular hoop season ends PDF  | Print |

    The regular high school basketball season has come to a close and playoff games began this week, with the Eastern Maine Tournament being held Feb. 17-25 at the Bangor Auditorium.
    To finish out the season last Friday night, the Hodgdon girls downed GHCA, 72-31, while in the nightcap, the Hodgdon boys topped GHCA, 64-53.
    Jennah Steamer led Hodgdon with 12 points and Haley Gardiner posted 11 more in the win. Sara Fitzpatrick netted nine points, while Britta Oliver chipped in with eight.

    The Houlton, Hodgdon and Southern Aroostook girls needed to scrape by the playoffs before reaching the Eastern Maine Tournament at the Bangor Auditorium.
